My Summer Goals…

Spring break not only got me thinking, but also gave me time to think. I took that time to, it was much needed! That being said I have fully decided upon a few simple goals that I want to knock out before the end of summer.

First and foremost I am ready to invest more in this site, and plan to do so. I have purchased hunterjnelson.com and will soon be migrating over to it. It is there I plan to not only host this blog but also would like to (will) create an interface in which all of my activities can be ‘monitored’, this way myself and others can visibly see what I am doing, how, and why.

What do I mean exactly? Well, I will…

  1. Still share on my blog.
  2. Have my calendar visible, and allow others to schedule events with me through it .
  3. Import my activity on social media some how.
  4. List my goals in a big way, creating a long-term plan that is both timely and detailed.

Once in place I will layout other goals I have worked up recently, to briefly name a few…

  • #1 Services, my automated lawn care company that will be up and running shortly.
  • LuckyWings a non-profit I would like to start-up.
  • Various paragliding goals.
  • Finishing construction of my house. Finally!

Hunterjnelson.wordpress.com has given me a place to share what I am working on, and what I aspire to do. Soon it shall do so in a whole new way, in accomplishing this one goal I will bring to light all others, large and small.

What am I doing this morning?

I am going to simply…

  1. Eat slowly. If you cram your food down your throat, you are not only missing out on the great taste of the food, you are not eating healthy. Slow down to lose weight, improve digestion, and enjoy life more. Read more.

  2. Drive slowly. Most people rush through traffic, honking and getting angry and frustrated and stressed out. And endangering themselves and others in the meantime. Driving slower is not only safer, but it is better on your fuel bill, and can be incredibly peaceful. Give it a try.Read more.

These are two of the 72 ideas to simplify your life that I shared in a previous post that I will be giving attention too.

I usually end up scarfing down a meal and speeding to school every morning, but will not tomorrow. Accompanying and complimenting these new ideologies will be my new sleep schedule, which has been going great!

Take it easy today! I am.

Who inspires me?

It is very important to look toward people, see what they are doing, take inspiration from them, and learn from them. Most of those who fit this bill in my world are canopy sports athletes. Rob who gave me my first wing, Matt my instructorPál Takáts, Jeb Corliss, and so on…

They are people I aspire to be like, not only because they can and have done amazing things, but because I see how they are ambitiously pursuing life and taking it for all its worth. This is something that only comes with great determination, forethought, and the right mindset. The conditions in which they live day-to-day serves to be a true testament that they have what it takes, not only to get through the day but so see many more. It is not without great consideration they fly. It is not with out great consideration they make any choices.

Recently I have found yet another face to look toward; in my blogs infancy I was excited to get a few followers and likes, most of which I discovered were only looking for web site traffic (which I can understand and respect). One like however brought me to a blog that really struck me. The content was very genuine, Continue reading

A WordPress tip – automated posting

A few days ago I let out a post sharing that not only do I love blogging, but that have started using the timestamp feature to get out my posts on a regular schedule. If you do this already or want to start doing it (or interested regardless?) I have made some great headway in doing so and would like to share my takeaways!

If you don’t know what I am talking about, this is where you will find the timestamp…

timestamp area screen shotClicking edit located next to “Publish immediately” expands to show this amazing new text field. You are to set the date and time (military time) then select ok to lock in your “to be posted” time. If done successfully you will notice the “Publish” button below now displays “schedule”, which is what you will click when you are ready to finally commit to your posting time/date.

An issue I ran into…

After getting all excited I planned out days worth of posts, only of course! If you are using this same feature you will quickly realize (like I did) that keeping track of every “post to be”. How do I not overlap posts? How do I know when what is posting! I found myself crawling to my professor asking if there was a hidden calendar in WordPress that would help me. No such luck, but given the fact that she has posted literally thousands of times using this feature she was able to give a little “method to the madness”.  She recommended that I record what post, blog used, and time into my calendar. A great solution, but one I would certainty struggle to commit to. Posting as much as she does, it may be the only way to go… but I found a much more intuitive solution myself and it may help you out too!

Here is my solution…

Looking at your posts in the back-end of WordPress, as you surely have done before, you will notice many ways to filter what kind of posts you would like to view. If you are anything like me you have a good hand-full of to be posts under “drafts”.

Look carefully and you will see “Scheduled” as one of the filter options, click it!

schedualed tab in page viewI discovered through experimentation that the hierarchy in which these are listed is relative to the time it is scheduled to post! Sadly this does not show the exact time (even in quick edit), but you can get a great idea as to when things are going out.

Currently I am getting out one post in the morning and another in the evening, so it’s quite clear to me that if I have two with the same date that the lower post is the morning one and so on through out the day. Furthermore I feel like a very post thick day would not be hard to make sense of.

I hope I was able to help you out! Feel free to leave a comment if you want to learn or talk more!
